Well, as we thought signing up for websites wasn't bad enough, now software companies are using captcha for uninstalling programs! Doesn't this defeat the purpose of administrative accounts for windows? Also, why are they even doing this? I don't think any audamated spam bot is going to get on your computer and uninstall your programs. The only reason I can get out of this is possibly for if you get a virus that tries to get rid of your programs, but other then that I don't see the purpose. I now hear norton is doing this. Well thank goodness I got rid of them then. Guess I'll just have to download programs that don't have this feature rahter it works with jaws or not, because I live on my own, and when I want to get rid of a program, darn it I want it gone!

Captcha for uninstalling programs, come on! That's stupid, and uncalled for! What we need to do is talk to these developers, and tell them that this is keeping blind people from using there software!

I never saw that but the way I see it, it's pointless.

I've come accross this when i've been given machines from people who don't want all the bloatware that oem's put on.
The one main program that does this seems to e the norton products which I can actually see a point for.
Sadly, nortons always the first thing that I uninstall (Using the removal tool which actually semmy uninstalls it, unlike the uninstaller) which means that I always have to get a set of eyes to read me the capture.

Its a bit of a pain but meh - its called beeing blind - noone said it was easy.
And bitching about it to the developers will do nothing except waste time, I actually think its quite a good protection measure.

I can see a need for programs like norton to keep rogue programs from uninstalling norton so they won't get caught.

However, as I've said in another post, there are much easier ways to verify that a human is controling the machine. A simple question like "what is the (first, second, or third--to be selected randomly) letter of cat. Someone has just sold an industry on a product. That's all.

i agree with bob. there should be easier ways to uninstall programs or join websites than captcha. there should be substitutions for it.

like what they have on the gw micro blog to add comments. they ask what the gw in gw micro stand for and have mentioned in in a blog post. of course automated things aren't that smart.
